South Bend, Indiana: Abtrex Industries has built a new state-of-the-art fabrication facility where their fiberglass plant once stood. A fire destroyed the old building in November 2013. Abtrex has obtained their occupancy permit, and work has already begun in the shop. The new 16,000 square foot facility was built to better serve their customers’ needs.
In order to handle large tanks and vessels, the new facility includes two 15-ton bridge cranes with 28 feet under hook and three large overhead doors.
In addition, Abtrex added office space to the new building. Seven offices, a conference room and a new break room were built onto the front of the facility, and the staff has just completed moving into the new offices last week. While the fire was a devastating loss to Abtrex, it could have been worse. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, so there were no injuries and evacuation was not required. The fire did not cause any environmental contamination. The fire happened in the midst of the largest project in company history, no in-process work was lost and no delays were incurred.
